Mighty Marvel Geeks

Mighty Marvel Geeks

Mighty Marvel Geeks is a weekly podcast about all things Marvel. It is broadcast from a secret S.H.I.E.L.D. base in the above-ground, underwater, sub-orbital volcano lair and hosted by the Intrepid Trio, Agent Mike, Agent Kylan, and Agent Eric. Every week they gather information high and low and bring it to you, Marvel’s True Believers! They cover everything from comics to cinema, games to collectibles, and everything in between. An additional feature with each issue (yes, we do not have episodes, we have issues… listen and you’ll understand why) is the Mighty Marvel Geeks P.O.W. (Pick Of the Week). That is where each host picks 3 Marvel titles being released that week as their best picks of the week, then one of the agents will have their pick from the Marvel Unlimited App. That gives you 10 marvel titles to choose from! You know, just in case you’re on the bubble about a certain title, maybe we can help you decide which way to go.

Remember how I said this is a podcast about all things Marvel? How about the guests? Mighty Marvel Geeks regularly interviews people directly involved with Marvel. The show has featured Marvel writers, artists, and editors, as well as other behind the scenes personnel. They have come from the past and the present, all giving their unique perspective into what it is like to work for Marvel and the stories behind what is between the pages of your favorite titles. The show also features “Team Up” issues with other podcasts to provide a different perspective on what is going on in the comics industry. These may happen in conjunction with major conventions or with notable Marvel events. Either way, you are guaranteed to not have a dull moment when you’re tuned in to Mighty Marvel Geeks.

Review – Spider-Man: Homecoming

Review – Spider-Man: Homecoming

I have seen just about every Spidey movie produced and have experienced varying degrees of satisfaction and frustration. When I heard about the Sony/Marvel collaboration for this film, I felt a bit of relief, but was still unsure about the project, as a whole. But, I was willing to keep an open mind, because Marvel Cinematic was behind it. Let just say that this movie was everything that I hoped that it could be, and then some! From the casting to the costumes, I was not disappointed one bit.

The movie interjected the right amount and kind of humor for a Spider-Man movie with no detriment to the seriousness of the story as a whole. Plus, I feel like that this is the first time that we actually get a realistic depiction of what a learning curve Peter is experiencing as a new superhero. From being in the suburbs and not having something attach a web to, to miscalculating how much, or how little, he needs to swing from point A to point B, we see it all. Plus, the difficulties that go with having a secret identity! Speaking of, it was so good to have an intelligent villain. It didn’t take half the movie for Vulture to figure out who Spider-Man was, and he wasted no time in making it known, either. I liked that a lot!

The movie is filled with easter eggs that go all the way back to Captain America: The First Avenger and up to Captain America: Civil War and it does that extra bit to tie it all together. Plus, to finally see Damage Control was a nice touch, too!! This movie clocks in wll over two hours, but you will not feel it and please stick around for the end credit scenes…they was well worth it! So, I do highly recommend Spider-Man: Homecoming. It is ideal for the younger ones, too, if you’re thinking of making it a family outing.

Mighty Marvel Geeks 173: Your Friendly Neighborhood Marvel Geeks

Mighty Marvel Geeks 173: Your Friendly Neighborhood Marvel Geeks

Your Intrepid Trio has returned with another broadcast filled with more Marvel news for your ears! The show begins with a heartfelt memorial to Joan Lee, Stan Lee’s wife headed up by Eric. Kylan then follows with a late breaking story about an injured Jeremy Renner. Will it affect Avengers: Infinity War? Mike follows up with a piece about what three MCU movies must you see before seeing Spider-Man: Homecoming. The article creates an interesting discussion for the team. Do you agree? Mike then segues into an article about a scene that was in the trailer, but not in the movie and why. This, too, spills over into the prevalence of trailers and geek culture’s obsession with them. Kylan follows with a story about the five movie story arc for Peter Parker. Pete has quite a road ahead of him, it seems. Mike finishes the movie news with an article about the future for Blade in the MCU. Eric then finishes the news segment with a piece about Captain America being called out by another comic company. Fall is going to be kinda hot, it seems! The guys then take it to the comic shop for their P.O.W.(Picks Of the Week) and Kylan has the Marvel Unlimited POW.

Mighty Marvel Geeks 171: Figures With John Tyler Christopher

Mighty Marvel Geeks 171: Figures With John Tyler Christopher

This week, the Intrepid Trio invites Marvel Comics artist John Tyler Christopher into the Above-Ground-Underwater-Volcano-Lair. John hits the ground running talking about his claim to fame, the action figure variant covers. Beginning with the Star Wars books and going to the most recent published books, he’s had his hand on it. John talks about what the action figure variants have meant to him as an artist and the guys talk about what it means for them as fans. JTC even goes on to discuss how a certain character could conceivably bridge the MCU and the Star Wars Universe. The Star Wars talk also brings up an obscure and missed character from the early Marvel run as well as toys that never saw the big screen. The talk then goes into his work on other Marvel books and characters that he really enjoy as a comic fan. From there the guys go to the comic shop for their (P.O.W.) Picks Of the Week!
